Beginning to listen

Exploring the World Mother Initiative…

I have been wondering how to begin my first blog post. There are many ways I could introduce the World Mother Initiative. I could explain what it is, what I hope it will become, or why I believe it is needed. But perhaps the most honest way is simply to begin with the longing it is coming from. The World Mother is, for me, an act of devotion to the highest potential for life at this moment in time. Not as a grand statement, but quite personally.

There is something I have been listening to for a long time. For as long as I can remember, I have longed to experience the true nature of existence. How do things truly want to be, when they are in harmony with the whole? I have felt this longing both individually - to live out the dreams and senses I have of what is possible for my life - and collectively, in our wildest visions of what life on Earth could be. Not as a question about personal fulfillment alone, but as a way of listening for what might want to move through my life in service of something larger.

I could use the word soul for this. But more often I name it The World Mother. I experience the Mother as something that has been known by many names across the world and throughout time - the Divine Mother, the World Soul, the Shekhinah. For me, she is the heart of creation and the living intelligence and love within life itself. She is that which longs for life to come more fully into alignment with its own highest potential. And she is deeply felt.

Perhaps this is why the state of the world can break our hearts so deeply. Something in us knows that things could be different. More true, more alive, more loving, more whole. I experience the Mother as that presence within us that feels this longing - and that so deeply wishes well for all life. Our souls are a fractal of the World Mother. Her longing can be felt as our longing, her heartbreak as our heartbreak, her movement towards something more whole the quiet movement we feel within our own lives.

Our individual soul's longings emerge from the same source as the longing of the world soul - The World Mother. What is asking to emerge through humanity cannot emerge without each of us becoming more willing to hear, and live from, what is deepest and most true within us.

The World Mother Initiative is one of my ways of participating in that unfolding. An initiative from the world soul. And honestly, creating it has brought up a lot of doubt in me. There has been - and still is - a lot of doubt. Doubt about whether this is possible. Doubt about whether I am capable of bringing it into being. Doubt about whether there is actually a place for something like this in the world. Fear of being seen as insane, fear of loneliness. At times, a deep sense of unworkability.

And yet, underneath the doubt, there is something else. A quiet insistence. A sense that something is asking to be given space. So I am choosing to stay close to that, close to the devotion. And I am so, so grateful there is a listening - a small group of you all receiving this letter, making what is trying to birth come alive. Writing in here feels safe, as if I am protecting a newborn from a chaotic and noisy world so it can grow peacefully.

There is a new consciousness becoming available on the planet - a new way of perceiving reality. We can not know exactly what this means yet, as we cannot know what has not yet been. But perhaps we can give ourselves to the sacred adventure of exploring it together. Because what we give ourselves to, we become.

I think of the World Mother Initiative as a stream of a new fabric of existence - something that becomes real through our participation with it. It is not a project that I am trying to build, but an unfolding that I am learning to participate in. An adventure in consciousness made real through everyday life. My wish is for these letters to be a place to explore, a place to ask questions that don't yet have answers. A place to stay present amid the chaos, transformation, collapse and heartbreak of this time - without assuming that the falling apart is a failure. Perhaps some of what is moving through us is making space for something new. What is trying to be born through us?

I don't know exactly where these blog posts will take us. I hope to write one each week, and let the writing itself become part of the exploration of what the World Mother Initiative actually is and to stay close to my longing. Perhaps, over time, the writing will help me discover it as much as it helps me share it. And hopefully you will discover something through it too.

For now, I will leave us with this question:

What is quietly, persistently asking to come alive through you? What might become possible if you were to give yourself to that longing?

Thank you so much for being here, for receiving this. You are always welcome to stay in touch by sending me a message through the contact form. And if you sense that someone close to you would benefit from the World Mother Initiative, please share it.
